Ivan J. Kaplan

Ivan J. Kaplan, Esq. heads up the real estate finance and transactional practice area of Becker Meisel LLC. Under his leadership, the practice group has grown by several members with plans for continued expansion.

In practice for more than 16 years, Mr. Kaplan has been active in both corporate law and commercial law including real estate. Since being selected to head Becker Meisel's real estate finance and transactional practice group, Mr. Kaplan has represented clients in a number of major real estate development projects. For example, he has represented Asbury Partners LLC, the designated master developer of a 56-acre waterfront redevelopment project in Asbury Park, N.J., in the acquisition of a number of properties within the redevelopment zone. In addition, Mr. Kaplan is representing other New Jersey-based companies in their development and redevelopment of a number of under-utilized sites in Rahway, N.J.'s Transit Village, Newark, Paterson and other key urban areas of the state.

Mr. Kaplan has also represented clients in a variety of corporate deals including multi-million dollar asset purchases and sales transactions respecting service and manufacturing businesses, as well as general corporate matters.

Mr. Kaplan earned his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law - Camden, where he was Managing Editor of the Law Journal, and his B.A. from George Washington University. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1991 and the Third Circuit in 1993. Prior to joining Becker Meisel, Mr. Kaplan was associated with Sills Cummis & Gross, P.C. of Newark, N.J.

In 2007, Real Estate New Jersey featured Mr. Kaplan in its "Meet the Real Estate Lawyers" issue and he was chosen as a "2006 Rising Star" in New Jersey by Real Estate Weekly. In March 2008, Mr. Kaplan was featured in the Star Ledger’s Business of New Jersey column and he spoke at Lorman’s "Real Estate Development From Beginning to End" in October 2007.
