Civil Litigation: Appellate
Practice
Often litigation does not end at the trial level. Protecting a victory or
overturning an unjust decision may be as important to the ultimate success
of a litigation as effective trial representation.
Becker Meisel has established a talented and highly sophisticated appellate
practice. The Litigation Group includes a retired Associate Justice of the
New Jersey Supreme Court, a number of former law clerks and counsel experienced
in handling complex appellate matters. The experience and skill of these
attorneys permits the Litigation Group to assess the viability of appeals,
evaluate the record established at trial, dissect the applicable statutory
or common law, identify the most powerful appellate theme and articulate
the theme in briefs and oral argument before the appellate court.
Even at the trial level, trial counsel must prepare a case with an eye toward
a potential appeal. The Litigation Group takes a comprehensive approach
to all litigation. The Group's trial counsel consults with appellate counsel
to construct the case at trial and mold it for potential appeal.
