"John possesses unparalleled expertise in this very specialized field of beach preservation law," remarked Martin Borosko, Esq., managing member of Becker Meisel LLC. The Firm has offices in Livingston and Shrewsbury, N.J., as well as Manhattan, where it is expanding its presence.
Current Legal Battle Involving Beach Erosion in Nearby Southampton, N.Y.
O’Connell and Borosko are now representing the Town of Southampton in a similar matter involving beach erosion due to man-made groin fields. The Southampton case focuses on Suffolk County’s creation of two 1000-foot jetties in order to stabilize Shinnecock Inlet in 1953. By interrupting the natural flow of sand, these jetties have starved the beaches west of them, causing extensive beach erosion. The trial also involves the construction of jetties in East Hampton, N.Y.
"The significant beach erosion in both Southampton and East Hampton is destroying wildlife habitats, threatening the very existence of a number of endangered species," added Borosko. "Our goal is to both restore these beaches as well as preserve the wildlife in the area."
